FAQ

About us

  • Sprout & About Ventures was founded by Darius Seiller as an impact family office. Darius is a shareholder and board member of the Huelsenberg Group, which comprises industry leading companies like Schaumann, Lactosan, Senzyme, and Alginure.

  • Sprout & About aims to accelerate the development and commercialization of alternative proteins.
We believe that we can create mutually beneficial scientific exchanges and partnerships by connecting startups with established technology companies from the animal feed and biotech industries.

  • The urgent need for transformation in food & agriculture.
Feeding a growing population while reversing climate change and curbing biodiversity loss takes nothing less than radical change. By switching to alternative proteins, we can save water and land, cut down GHG emissions, and improve the quality and security of our food. Sending farm animals to well-deserved retirement solves the problems of antibiotics use, zoonotic diseases and animal suffering. Finally, affordable food cannot come at the expense of those who create it.

    Diversity within startups.
We strive to overcome the VC-industry’s long-standing bias towards founders with similar backgrounds. We believe in deal conditions that distribute success fairly among those who make it happen. We endorse employee stock ownership plans.

    Values alignment.
We align our values with founders so that we can concentrate on helping startups, not hindering them. Our main goal is to share the vision of replacing animal products in the supply chain, adopting a circular economy, and achieving the best social & environmental outcomes (e.g. B Corp).

    Giving back.
We commit to donate 10% of our net profits to the best-performing organizations that work on climate change, animal protection and sustainable farming.

  • Yes, we will normally never be the lead investor and always co-invest with other investors. We believe that we provide very specific value and like to add to a diverse group of investors.

  • We can offer unique value to founders in food and agriculture, due to our in-house access to scientists, production-at-scale experts, and worldwide distribution networks.
We can tap into existing solid-state fermentation, precision fermentation, algae, and feed mixing platforms.
Beyond our industry connections, we also work with larger VCs and international non-profits to support our portfolio companies’ growth.
